My students need the items such as bungee chairs and reading lights in order to improve their learning environment! These materials will get the students excited for independent reading/writing time by having movement opportunities within our classroom setting!
The 6th grade students in my classroom come from very diverse backgrounds. Some students have it all while others come to school with next to nothing. The BEST thing I can do is provide a warm and welcoming environment for EVERY child to WANT to come and learn in each day.
Where does my focus remain no matter what the hardship - THE STUDENTS!
These wonderful students depend on me to make the best decisions for them and I will do whatever it takes to make their learning environment fun! In return, my students show me that they want to be successful. Each day is a great day to teach them something new. They are like little sponges at this age absorbing all the information you provide them. I am there to give them the tools they need to be the next leaders!
My Project
My students enjoy being able to read and write in places other than their typical desk and chairs. With the help of Donors Choose, I am hoping to equip my classroom with flexible seating options for my students while they are participating in reading and writing activities.
In order to have student engagement and motivation both increase, I as the teacher, need and want to make necessary changes.
I want my classroom environment to be inviting and promote collaboration between students and adults as well as critical thinking. This cannot be done with students sitting in desks and chairs for the entire class period. These bungee chairs will look awesome scattered around my classroom as students read and write. Imagine turning the lights off and see little book lights everywhere - amazing! The students will be so engaged and excited for independent work time.
According to research, there are many benefits to having flexible seating in the classroom such as increased motivation, engagement and using up excess energy. All of this will help create a better oxygen flow to the brain for these students. It's no surprise to me that engaging in some sort of physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior.
