Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I want to be able to provide the basic items our students need to survive. This allows them to feel more relaxed and calm while trying to learn at school. My students are high school kids and they are teenagers, and they care about how they look. Many are from broken families and have a hard time financially. Our school is a continuation school and they left their regular high school because they are not able to graduate and need help. They struggle and we try to keep a peaceful and calm environment for them and support them the best we can. I would like to motivate them to participate and attend school more often. We have a low attendance rate at our school. I would like to give out gift cards so that they can purchase items they may need to survive and feel less stressed. My colleagues and I have decided to do raffles every Friday and give students in each class gift cards if they attend all week. This will increase attendance, and the more they come to school, the more they are learning. This will hopefully motivate them and encourage them to attend school and feel more calm. I want the best for these kids, they deserve it. However, if they don't attend school, they won't be learning. Those that win, will then create a letter with all the items ordered and write about how it was useful for them in their lives. Therefore, a writing assignment will be due with this reward.
