Student Athletes Need First Aid Kit

In any athletic program, sprained ankles and twisted joints among student athletes are common happenings. Unfortunately, our small, underfunded program lacks the resources to keep a well-maintained first aid kit for our student athletes. Our school prides itself on its strides to close the achievement gap for minority, at-risk youth by holding students to high standards and creating a rigorous academic environment. We carry that mission over to our athletic department, doing our best to provide kids with quality coaches and promoting discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Through donations and fundraisers, our sports teams have been founded from scratch, scrambling each year to find the necessary equipment for each team. But we continue to struggle with finding proper first aid for our kids. All of our coaches have been trained and are CPR/First Aid certified, but we lack the tools needed in case of a real emergency. If there is an injury demanding more than a band-aid or ice pack, we are out of luck! I myself am the girl's varsity basketball coach and one of my greatest fears is that a child might receive a serious injury where we are left helpless due to inadequate first aid equipment. In a separate proposal, I have asked for funding for a complete first aid kit. What I am seeking here is some minor equipment (instant cold packs and water bottles for hydration) that will allow our coaches to better treat injuries on the spot and get our student athletes back to playing sooner. In our program we make student health a priority. I hope that you will consider fulfilling our request and help us keep our kids safe. Thank you for your consideration.
