Student Athletes Need Exercise Equipment at Full Inclusion High School

Help me give my students this exercise equipment to support our Full Inclusion High school exercise club. We are a small group of 12 students and have been working hard with 5 gallon water jugs and body weight.

My Project

Hi, my name is Michael Power and I am a high school history teacher at the Dr. William Henderson K-12 Inclusion school in Dorchester. I am also the coach of our Powerlifting exercise club. We are a small group of 12 high school students and we have been working out together every Wednesday afternoon for two years. We started exercising as a group with the one barbell and handful of weights that I had at home in my basement. While students waited for their turn to learn Olympicslifting movements with the barbell, students practiced with hockey sticks and performing body weight exercises. We also utilized the 5 gallon jugs of water we found in the cafeteria. We had lots of fun doing farmers carries, bent over rows and over head presses with the water jugs. These exercises were extremely tough for everyone but fun and a great work out. Our Henderson Student Athletes have made tremendous gains despite the lack of equipment. For example, when Trevonte started exercising his muscles were so short he couldn't perform a simple air squat but now he can squat 185lbs. Lifting the 45lb barbell was difficult for him but after a year his new record deadlift is 300lbs!!

We have had a few very kind parents donate money and weights, but we are still in need of more weights and barbells.

With this money we will be purchasing four more barbells and 500lbs worth of weight. If there is any money left over we will create and buy club T-shirts. This will allow our student athletes to learn and exercise in pairs appropriately and allow students to grow even stronger.
