Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from wonderful families that work several jobs to provide shelter, food, and safety. The kids come to school every day aware that statistics prove the odds are against them, but knowing that their teachers and school community will do anything to give them a fighting chance to succeed. They are loving, hard-working, determined, creative, and enthusiastic. They have the biggest hearts, most curious minds, and abilities that are parallel to none. They deserve the entire world and then some!
My Project
My students are wonderful young men and women that live in a low-economic area. Most of my students live in the apartment buildings surrounding our school campus and don't have a safe place where they can play together after school.
Their passion for playing soccer knows no limits, and they often beg to play during PE and after school.
The problem with that is that our school only has two 3' x 4' soccer nets and a few old kickballs. The students do the best they can with our old equipment, But it really doesn't provide an authentic experience. I would love to supply them with a more realistic soccer experience and encourage some fun-loving, hard-working student-athletes to play at school rather than sit at home playing video games.
These new soccer balls and larger soccer nets would help support their love of the game and support the school's cause of keeping our youngsters safe and engaged in healthy cooperative activities.
