Our school houses pre-K and kindergarten students. Our 4, 5 and 6 year old students love learning and are curious, creative and active. They are just beginning their academic careers at our school, and we are building the foundation of their academic success, so keeping them engaged is important.
Research has shown that students academic performance improves by doing hands-on learning activities.
Simple in-class activities such as using magnetic letters and numbers can help them learn to read and boost their number sense.
We are a Title I school, which makes funds and resources limited. I want to be able to provide our students with the best opportunity for academic success.
My Project
My students will use the magnetic board during whole group activities and small group station work. Using magnetic letters to create words will help build their phonemic awareness. We currently have magnetic numbers and counters to practice counting skills. We also have other math manipulatives that are magnetic such as magnetic coins, and shapes so they can work on other math skills.
Fine motor skills are important for our young learners, they help activate the cognitive functions in the brain.
The magnetic, dry erase board combination and write and wipe pockets will allow my students to practice their fine motor skills.
