Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love music and playing instruments! I teach students ranging from kindergarten to 5th grade. They are very interested in pop culture, connecting with their roots, and performing!
My classroom community is centered around inclusion, kindness, growth mindset, and experiential learning.
We learn about so many things in music that are relevant to the world around us and we have so much fun using the tools that we have. There is so much to learn about music and that means we need the right tools to help us make it the most authentic and exciting experience possible. This group of students is incredible and we are so excited to make new memories in music class.
My Project
Here at SES, we have a LOT of acoustic and electric guitars! My 4th graders learn about rock n' roll and 5th graders learn about the blues and the guitar is a core instrument for both of these genres.
Instead of telling my students about the guitar, we have the unique opportunity to put these instruments into their hands.
I would use these instruments with 4th and 5th grade students to learn blues and rock n' roll songs. They'd need tuners and song charts to read music on guitar. We also need a place to store the instruments safely so that students can access them easily without damage. We are very excited about getting to play on these instruments!
