My Students

Do you remember the day you fell in love with learning? I do, but for many of my students this is a struggle. Many are too focused on issues at home to focus on learning in class. My goal is to immerse students in high interest texts using technology to capture their interest, and love, of learning

I have the most amazing students!

However, many of my students are from very low income households and are often distracted by problems at home. Many of my students come to our Title One school without eating breakfast, bringing school supplies, and some are even without homes. My students have so much potential, yet many are not reaching theirs. I want to really engage my students in learning by using technology and books that are so engaging they never want to put them down. My goal is to help students find their love of learning and set them on a path to success and accomplishing their dreams.

My Project

The donation of the two Kindle Fires will allow me to work with struggling readers, of which I have many, in the classroom during small group instruction. These Kindles will allow my students the freedom to have more texts available to them at the correct reading level without calling attention to the fact that they may be below grade level. I also plan on using the Kindles to support one of my students who has a degenerative vision disorder and can use this to enlarge print and take/view notes. What students wouldn't want to read from a Kindle?! My students and I are currently reading "The Hunger Games" as a read aloud in class. I have never seen my students so interested in a series and I can't wait to get these extra texts into their hands. It's a pleasure to finally see my students raising their hands and asking for extended reading time in class. I would like to use this series as an instructional aid for teaching literature terms, character analysis, writing styles, and more!

The donation of the Kindle Fires and The Hunger Games series will be positive tools that I can use to engage my students in their education, rather then their issues at home, even if just for a few hours.

I hope combining technology and high interest literature will open my student's eyes to the amazing world available to them and will encourage my students to strive for more!
