This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of our students enter high school with below grade level reading skills. Many of our struggling students are designated students with special needs and/or English Language Learners. At our high school we have many students that continue to struggle with reading. All of our students are expected to pass the New York State Regent's exam.
Our students are motivated learners eager to have access and an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding without being limited by their disability.
Our special needs students are all individuals with some form of learning disability including dyslexia, ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).
My Project
Our struggling readers want to show that they can achieve a high level of academic success without being limited by their "disability". Our students wants to demonstrate their understanding at a higher degree without being limited. Our struggling readers are anxious to succeed.
Help our motivated students do better with assistive technology.
Our students know that the power is in their hands. They want to do their best all the time. Transitioning from middle school to high school is extremely challenging especially when faced with more rigorous instructional practices and content. Our students want to do their best without appearing to need continuous support of a teacher (reading to them one-on-one).
Given the opportunity to have a pen that reads for them will put the power truly in their hands.
