"Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity." - Kay Redfield Jamison
I have 23 eager, talkative, energetic students who love structured playtime.
They love the freedom of choice during this time. My school is a Title I school with more than half our students on free or reduced price lunch. Many of my students don't have access to high quality materials for play.
My Project
In my classroom, I have various centers open during structured playtime. Two of the centers are puzzles and the dramatic play area. In the dramatic play area, I have a kitchen setup that has been a restaurant, a coffee shop, and a bakery. As the kitchen changes, the food items in it change as well. At the dramatic play area, students are gaining social and emotional skills, language skills, and problem solving skills. In the puzzles center, I have a variety of table top puzzles and a few floor puzzles. When students are working on a puzzle, they are gaining problem solving skills, fine motor skills, and cognitive skills.
Your donations will provide my students a variety of materials that will enhance their play.
My students need puzzles, a pretend cash register, and play food to be used during structured play. These materials will build on what is already in the classroom for structured play. The skills that my students will get from structured play are something that money can't buy.
