Help me give my students an amazing school year and a smooth transition back to the school building with books,figit toys, and other classroom materials after they have already lost so much.
My students are children with various special needs, such as learning and emotional disabilities. For many of my students school supplies and school essentials are hard to come by as they come from single parent homes or are raised by their grandparents. My school is a part of one of the largest school districts, so my students are bussed from a large variety of neighborhoods with various incomes. Most of the students are children of hard working immigrants who are working really hard to support their large families. My students require a lot of nurturing, flexible and differentiated environment to help support their learning styles and keep them engaged and learning in the most creative ways. Bean bag chairs will help accommodate flexible seating for those students who need to be out of their regular seats. Math manipulative will help engage multi-sensory learners and provide hands on activities for concept mastery. My students will really appreciate a classroom which will accommodate not only educational needs, but social and emotional as well. They will absolutely love all the positive reinforcement their classroom will offer.
My Project
As we try to come back to normalcy in the coming up 2021-22 school year, it's my biggest goal to welcome my students back & create a safe and nurturing environment. Some of my students have not been in the classroom since the onset of Covid 19 pandemic, thus in the anticipation of a challenging transition I am working on creating an environment that will help facilitate a smooth and successful transition back. I teach a special education self contained classroom for students with various learning and emotional disabilities. For example, bean bags are used as flexible seating so that my students are able to be as comfortable as they can be while focusing on lessons or working in small groups. My students are multi-sensory learners that benefit from addition focusing using materials such as highlighters to highlight important information and help bring focus to specific details. Each item on the list is meant to create a differentiated classroom to accommodate their learning, physical and emotional needs. In order to address social and emotional concepts, my students will be using books as examples of different situations and ways to cope. To motivate students, I have put in place positive reinforcement system. Items on my list are going to be used as positive reinforcement prizes for students who are continuously working hard and showing improvement.
