My Students

"Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance." ~Samuel Johnson~ The challenge my students face daily is not only their learning disabilities, but the ability to access innovative equipment, such as iPads to further their learning and enrich their lives by keeping them engaged.

These students are K-5.

They all have some type of learning disability, whether it be academic, social or behavioral. They attend a regular elementary school in a general education environment with support. They are pulled out at various times during the day to get direct instruction with reading, writing and math. They come from various cultural and economic backgrounds.

My Project

I believe incorporating the technology of iPads into the classroom will not only boost the confidence and abilities of the students, but it will have a positive affect on their academic achievements. These resources will assist in bridging the gap for the students who lag behind, as well as the kids with disabilities and also be an added resource to staff. We will utilize them daily in reading groups, math activities and as a tool for writing. Student will develop skills in navigating the web to write reports. They will work together in small reading groups and have opportunities to read aloud and share the iPads. They will learn the positive affect of sharing and collaborating.

Most of our students do not have the access to computers at home, so the request for iPad technology in our special education classroom will make a difference by providing the students with that tool.

It will also give them the opportunity to make gains and help them achieve their IEP goals. The impact that this project will have on these kids is not really measurable in words, but most definitely measurable in data and observation. They will be more confident as a result, which will have a huge
