My students are a very diverse group of children with one thing in common - they all attend an urban, public Montessori school. Eighty-one percent of the students qualify for free lunch and 88% of the students are a racial minority.
We follow the teachings of Maria Montessori to meet the needs of the whole child - physically, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually through following and allowing the child to guide his or her learning.
I am fortunate to be in a school that sees music as an integral part of the child's development and encourages musical growth and expression.
My Project
My students needs ukulele strings to update our instruments so we can play and stay in tune. My students also use their woodwind reeds like they are going out of style! I know my clarinet, saxophone, and oboe students would love to have fresh reeds with they need them.
We are in desperate need of good materials that will go the distance!
My band is 80% woodwinds and they are expensive to maintain. I want to be able to provide the students fresh reeds and strings when needed instead of trying to make things last as long as possible for budget reasons. We are also in need of a few more tuners for students to be self-sufficient in tuning their guitars and neck straps for our saxophone players.
