My Project

I am so excited to work with my new cohort of 7th grade orchestra students in September 2024. They are eager and hungry to continue to grow as musicians! Watching six schools worth of musicians come together as one orchestra in 7th grade is so rewarding. For the first time, they are performing with musicians with the same level of experience

- their elementary orchestra performing experiences are combined with students from multiple grade levels.

When they realize what they are capable of together, the light bulb moment is poignant!

In order to properly assess my new students’ music reading literacy skills, we need some engaging materials to accomplish this goal outside of the music we are learning. This is where the new String Training Book 1 by Kathryn Greisinger comes in. Every page of this resource is designed to develop fundamental skills in note recognition, finger patterns, key signatures, meter, rhythms, and sight-reading. Every exercise can be written, counted, sung, and played to allow students to focus on one music element at a time. Since we are a 1:1 iPad building, a digital resource is necessary for Google Classroom assignments.

My hope and vision is that String Training Book 1 activities will allow my musicians and I to quickly assess skill level and figure out where to fill in any gaps. I want to see my newest OMSOrchFam musicians succeed beyond their wildest expectations while continuing to instill a love for creating and performing together.
