My Students

My school is in a rapidly growing rural population in Colorado. It is not too far out of Denver and has good road connection with the wider urban area around that city. Our students have strong theater, band and choir courses from which to choose. As part of our expansion plans, I hope to lead the development of general music, composing and music technology courses and extracurricular activities.

Music is loved by our students and well supported by our community of teachers, administrators and parents!

A lot of school districts surrounding ours use our facilities and value our contribution to the wider school and community arts scene in rural Colorado. There is a great deal of interest in a broader music curriculum, including guitar/piano skills, computer music production and music composition.

My students, when moving to middle school, pick between band and choir and can graduate to intermediate/advanced bands, high school choir, drama and theater tech classes in high school. The growth and sustainability of these courses relies on a good quality elementary music program, extra curricular opportunities and new courses in music production, music theory and music composition/songwriting.

My Project

In order to build middle/high school courses in music composition, songwriting and modern ensemble playing, we need guitars that are easy to play and accessible to all students in music classes. These classical guitars use nylon strings that are further spaced apart, thus making them easier on which to learn good fundamental skills.

Our school is looking to expand music courses and activities as our population grows!

Students in Grades 3 - 5 should have exposure to a wider variety of instruments other than voice, drums and recorders, and so I am looking to introduce guitar, electronic pianos and computers to our elementary music room.

My room will also serve as a base for before/after school groups, such as songwriting, instrumental composition, computer music production and jazz improvisation that should prosper if we have the basic equipment. I expect our school to become a music hub for rural Colorado over the next few years!
