String Shoulder Pads, Endpin Stoppers, and Rosin Needed
My students need 70 cakes of rosin, 8 cello endpin holders, 30 medium shoulder rests and 41 large shoulder rests in order to play their string instruments properly.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My string students attend an arts magnet school in the inner city. At our school, students have the opportunity to study multiple art forms and can participate in strings classes as early as kindergarten. I currently teach about 120 string students from grades k-5.
My students are very eager to play their instruments well. Most of my students cannot afford to get their own instruments, so the school provides instruments to anyone who wishes to play. However, my program is lacking some basic accessories such as shoulder pads, endpin holders and rosin. Shoulder pads make it possible to hold the violin and viola properly. Most of my students have pads made from cut up foam seat cushions. Endpin holders keep cellos from slipping on hard surfaces, and without rosin, the bow cannot make a sound.
I have requested 70 cakes of rosin so that students do not have to share rosin anymore. The 8 endpin stoppers will allow my cello students to play on non-carpeted surfaces without worrying about a slipping instrument. The 30 medium and 41 large shoulder pads are made of contoured foam that will ensure the students can hold their violins and violas with proper posture.
Your contributions will make string playing a more comfortable and successful endeavor for all of my students.
