Our Middle School Band program has a total of five different ensembles for students to participate and learn music. At the beginning of each class, students set up their chairs, music stand and instrument. We warm up the band with various engaging musical exercises then tune each section.
Our Middle School Band program offers a variety of ensembles that currently has an enrollment of 240 seventh and eighth graders in the 2016-17 school year.
We offer two Beginning Band classes comprised of seventh and eighth graders. Incoming students who learned a band instrument during summer school are placed in the Intermediate Band class. The Symphonic Band consists mainly 8th grade band students and a few selected Intermediate Band students. Second year students who are interested in taking another music class may audition to perform in the Jazz Band . Our Middle School Music Department also offers a Concert Orchestra ensemble that combines the strings and band instruments which meets once a week after school.
My Project
Strike up the Band project includes a castanet and triangles to add to our auxiliary of percussion instruments. We have three levels of band classes that percussion students will use these instruments during musical pieces - Beginning Band, Intermediate Band and Symphonic Band. This year in our Symphonic Band which enrolls a number of 94 students, we have a total of 15 percussion players. We need multiple sets of instruments for all percussion students to play and learn during class. Our current castanet is broken and needs to be replaced. Many of the pieces we perform include triangles so this percussion instrument is used frequently. Please help us obtain these auxiliary percussion instruments for our students to play. Your donation is much appreciated. Thank you!
