Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Like Winnie-the-Pooh, some of us have a little trouble when we "up, down, touch the ground." My students need 20 yoga blocks to help us in achieving our poses and increasing our flexibility.
This project will support 11th and 12th grade students at a continuation high school.
There are many negative stereotypes associated with continuation schools, but I want to assure you that on this campus there is a strong culture of redemption. My students work hard every day to prove to their teachers, peers and themselves that they are smart and capable and to get themselves back on the track to graduation.
My Project
Getting students excited about physical activity can be a challenge. However, thanks to the generous support of donors like yourself, we purchased 20 exercise mats last school year, and have been able to provide students the opportunity to learn yoga. This class has been incredibly successful and we would like to further enhance the class by purchasing yoga blocks to assist students in performing poses, improve body alignment, and deepen stretches.
Your support will allow students to build healthy exercise habits and learn valuable life skills, such as how to control emotions in a healthy way.
