This school year I incorporated a 5 minute stretch break into my AP Computer Science A class. Our classes are approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes long which it too long to be sitting at a computer. My students now really look forward to the stretch break, and it has become part of our class routine. I often play 5 minute yoga videos but we skip the parts that require us to stretch on the hard floor.
My students have requested yoga mats so they can do more stretching!
I was surprised at first, but they really enjoy this part of our class and they want to do more yoga. I also want to begin incorporating this into my other courses so that more students can benefit from a short physical break.
