My Students
My students are in an urban school with 55% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. My students are learning to process their frustration in ways that don't disrupt the learning of other students.
Currently, my students struggle with processing their frustration and stress in the moment.
My students are working hard to change their behavior to do better both in school and at home. These materials would allow my students to calm down in a controlled situation and allow staff to teach coping skills in the moment. By doing this, we can reduce suspensions, reduce damage to rooms, and increase the learning of students.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will allow my students access to stress relievers and fidgets to support their development of self-regulation. My students will use the fidgets and stress relievers in my room when they are struggling in the general education setting which will help them build independence with self-regulation.
Improving social-emotional skills will allow my students to focus more on their academics and less on their behaviors.
When students are no longer stressed about not knowing how to respond when spoken to, how to process their stress, and how to move while sitting, they are more likely to be successful in the academic setting.
