My Project

Help me provide stress relief fidgets and earned incentive prizes for my students!

Many of my students have difficulty with self-regulation in the classroom.

Sometimes this leads to undesired behaviors. This can be because of many factors including: stress, anxiety, or over abundance of energy. Providing them with fidget allows them self-regulate in a manner that does not distract their peers or disrupt the learning environment. Every student has different type of fidget that appeals to them. Some students like the spinners, others like squishy balls, and other students prefer fidgets that have variety of textures. I want to make sure that I have mixtures of fidgets that will appeal to my students.

To assist with self-regulation and increase desired behaviors, many of my students have a daily behavior chart. Their behavior is tracked throughout the whole day. They have to earn at least 80% out of 100% to meet their goal. If they have met their daily goals for the entire week, they earn a weekly incentive prize. Right now, I give my students chips and candy but I want to provide more alternatives that are not junk food.

The fidgets are popular. My students love them, so I thought why not make that a weekly incentive prize instead? My students all come from low-income families below the poverty line. Their parents can not afford to provide them with these fidgets. If these fidgets are effective in the classroom, maybe they'll be effective at home.
