Stress-free Communication in Covid Times

Help me give my students headphones with microphones for a safe and stress-free communication in a foreign language class.

My Project

My students need headphones with microphones to practice their target language in a stress-free and safe way. They need to record and hear their own pronunciation, compare it to recorded vocabulary audios, then repeat to achieve mastery. After mastering the vocabulary, they can read prompts to record a dialogue or a story using the new vocabulary.

Our inner-city school serves students from grades 7th to 12th in a low income population.

My students have proved year after year that they are up to the challenge of learning and exploring one of the hardest languages in the world. The headphones with microphones will allow my students to listen to authentic material in Arabic, practice speaking, and self-evaluate before submitting their final work. They can do that at their own desk, limiting close contact with teachers or other classmates. It also allows them to be in charge of their learning in a fun and exciting way. When they are done practicing, they can pick up a prompt from the Totes Rack and create their own stories in the target language. They will also sanitize the headphones and the prompts before storing them to keep it a germs free classroom.

The pandemic changed teaching practice for many and made classroom procedures stressful. Communicating safely should not be one of them!
