This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My first graders are such a joy to teach. They are resilient and persistent. They want so much to learn and they try very hard. My students show patience and a willingness to try that helps them on their learning journey.
Many of my students are successful, but there are some who struggle.
Some of my high energy students have difficulty focusing. Sitting is a challenge. The urge to move sometimes makes it difficult to be present and focused when learning something new.
Anti slip chair bands will help students who fidget. They can expel extra energy, without being disruptive. These sensory bands allow students to move and use self regulation techniques, without creating distractions.
Other students have difficulty seeing the print on the page. They can miss key concepts when they have difficulty reading. Colored reading tracking overlays will help these students "see" the words better. It will make a difference in their understanding and will give them a confidence they are missing now.
Study Carrels will help all my students focus, minimize distractions, and will help them rely on their own understanding when completing assignments and tests. The study carrels also will give my distractible students a quiet place in which to learn, free from visual and noise distractions. We have a few in class that we currently use, but don't have enough for all students who need them.
This project provides fidget chair bands, and study carrels for my entire class. The highlight overlays will help students read when they read orally with me. Using these overlays will give me more information and tools to help all my students become successful readers.
