My Students

My amazing readers and avid mathematicians journal daily to improve their grammar, science & math vocab skills. Yet they lack the abstract sight (dimensional) and patterns needed to communicate, design and illustrate their projects in the engineering fashion they desire.

My students are highly motivated and skilled!

They have good families who support them as best they can. They are kind hearted, communicate well, and take responsibility for their actions. These students are ripe for our STEM school and drive our activities. They pick up skills quickly and like to share what they know including correcting me if needed! The students and their families chose our STEM school for its innovation and openness to being inspired by our student's creativity and ideas. Being my first year on the STEM campus, I've been inspired by both students and teachers. Our school incorporates project based learning throughout all subjects. What we lack is the arts to help our students fully develop. My students require art instruction to develop their vision, sight, spatial awareness, and eye-hand coordination activities to improve their fine motor skills, printing, and design confidence.

My Project

My students love to read! They also love to learn about historical figures. We will be infusing art throughout all of our projects, whether by diagramming, or painting and modeling habitats or drawing circuits. The artist books will help them become familiar with famous artists and their related styles as students move through the arts standards to enhance their vision and improve their fine motor skills. First, they'll read and write about an artists. Then they will share their learning with kindergarten students. Then we will practice the style of art with the Kindergarteners as well as in our class an in our projects. For example, our next project answers "How animals, insects, and plants are interdependent?" As we learn about habitats, we will also be learning how to draw and replicate landforms and habitats. They will need to make drawings to scale! Given books about different artists, we will choose the artist who has skills we need to develop the needed art skills.

These art donations will help improve the quality of the students work on a daily basis!

It will support their fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and their ability to draw and design as required by their project based learning components. Furthermore, as they move into more complicated math the arts will help them have vision to better understand dimension and perspective. Having the tools, resources, and organizational materials helps me be a more effective teacher and support students.
