My Students
I want to build my students' thirst for knowledge, and I want them to see reading not as a chore, but an opportunity to expand their imaginations and intellect.
My students are a caring, loving group of kids who are constantly seeking out new opportunities to learn and grow.
They look out for each other and have each others' backs no matter what. My students have a passion for gaining new skills, and they are motivated to provide for themselves and their families in any and every way possible.
My Project
By having access to a classroom library containing novels that spark their interests, my students will eagerly select and read a novel of their choosing. While reading has typically been seen as a chore by my students, this expanded library will allow them to see the vast opportunities the act of reading provides, both for their imaginations and their intellect. My students will internalize the importance of reading and eagerly seek out new novels as a result of their exposure to this expanded library.
About three quarters of my students are struggling readers, and most stay away from reading at any cost.
By increasing access to novels that interest my students, the barrier between reading and my students will be broken down and my students will gain confidence in both the act of reading and their reading ability.
