This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our classroom is a population of Intellectually disabled students who love to learn new things and love using technology to learn. Our Life Skills program focuses on academics as well as social skills.
My lively students enjoy coming to school and are always ready to learn.
They are learning new words and working very hard to read them across all school settings. One thing in our classroom that isn't too great is our listening center. My students love to hear stories read to them and enhancing our listening center will make reading and center time even more engaging.
My Project
The use of reading centers helps improve listening skills as well as comprehension skills. The books and CDs requested for our project will be used for individual and small group learning to increase those skills as well as give my students a chance to listen to some funny and informational stories.
Listening to a narrator is more engaging because the narrator embellishes their storytelling with silly voices and dramatic enhancements.
My students will see reading as a pleasure more than just another learned skills.
My students are beginner readers and listening to stories and being able to follow along with the book will increase their attentiveness, tracking skills and love for literature.
