My Students
I am a second year special education teacher. I teach students in grades 2-5 with moderate to severe Autism and Intellectual Disabilities. Along with being a new teacher this particular Autism program is in its third year at our school. When I first entered my classroom last year, I noticed my students did not have the materials or resources they needed in order to be successful. Throughout the year I made sure I provided them with what I could while we took the time to get to know and learn from each other. As 2017 comes to a close, I strive to continue to promote academic success, growth, and physical fitness.
I have a small class of students who come from low income households and were given the gift of Autism.
Due to this gift, they are unable to meet the Common Core Standards and are on the Alternate Curriculum. With the proper tools and visual supports they are successful in the classroom and throughout campus. They also require much more sensory input and scaffolding than their peers in the general education setting.
My Project
These materials will allow me to provide my students with the visual and tactile materials that stimulate their learning. My students will have an opportunity to initiate their own learning after they have been introduced to each activity. These activities will help with basic number sense, sequencing, greater than and less then, addition and subtraction, and much more. Students that are on the spectrum need multiple reminders and visual cues to be successful. With these materials, my wonderful students will be able to succeed and grow in their mathematical concepts and be ready for next years teacher. Thank you for all your help and support.
