My Students
The students in our school are from a suburban school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Our school is made up of kindergarten through sixth grade and approximately 400 students. As a reading support teacher I support students in kindergarten through fourth grade. This project will be specifically for my third and fourth grade students.
When students are engaged, their learning is maximized!
My students are eager to read and learn new things. I strive to incorporate lessons that support our anti-bullying goals and afford me the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations about treating others with kindness.
My Project
Reading can be a wonderful experience for many. Children who struggle to read, unfortunately, do not have the same outlook on reading and need to be motivated to practice and apply strategies they are learning on a daily basis. When students can make connections it becomes easier to work on higher order skills like questioning to understand and determining the importance.
With these books, my students will have the opportunity to make connections to not only the book, but also the world and how to make it a better place.
Books that incorporate treating animals with kindness, lend themselves to rich discussions, which allows them to develop their comprehension skills.
