Strengthen Struggling First-Graders with Science Exploration - Part 1

The cost of science books (including All About Animals Photo Library and Cat in the Hat Science Series), a sink or float exploration kit, and a set of human X-Rays (from Lakeshore Learning) is $562, including shipping and fulfillment.

I teach fifteen wonderful and lively first graders in a poor area of Brooklyn, New York. It is an honor for me to teach these children because scientific research has proven that the brain has the capacity to absorb the highest amount of information between the ages of six and eight. In order to encourage this natural inquiry for learning, I try to provide my students with many science activities. However, NYC public schools don't think science is a priority in the younger grades. Consequently, I have not received the appropriate supplies to teach my youngsters the fascinating world of science. Unfortunately, I know that children need to explore their questions about the world and everything around them. It is my job to provide the materials to get these students to ask the right questions. This is why I'm asking for your help. I am asking for science materials including books, a sink or float exploration kit, and eight science learning centers, which include topics such as the five senses, life cycles, and nutrition. These materials will allow all of my students to gain valuable knowledge about the necessary science skills and standards that they need to have by the end of this school year. By funding this project, you will be empowering children to expand their minds and further their education.
