Strawbees: a Hands-On Learning Kit to Promote Student Learning!

My Project

A need that Strawbees can meet is the requirement of hands-on, physical models of the science concepts found in the Alabama fifth-grade science standards. Strawbees can take abstract concepts and turn them into tangible products students can better learn through creating and seeing.

Strawbees can benefit students beyond my classes.

When my students showcase their Strawbee creations in the school hallway, library, or during school events, it can spark curiosity and inspire other students to explore this learning tool. This can lead to cross-class collaboration on future projects. My students who have experience with Strawbees can mentor younger students or those in other classes, helping them get started with building and problem-solving activities. Also, my students can conduct demonstrations or workshops for other classes, showcasing the capabilities of Strawbees and introducing them to the various STEAM concepts they can explore using them. When my students have positive experiences with Strawbees, they can share their enthusiasm with others, including parents and teachers. This can raise awareness about the benefits of this learning tool and potentially lead to increased support for its use in other classrooms.

I have 78 students throughout the day, divided between three classes. In fifth-grade, we learn about many abstract concepts that are often not easily comprehended without a hands-on tool. Strawbees solves this problem by allowing students to build models and other tangible products that increase student learning and engagement.
