This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Play is one of the most important ways that students learn. It's fun, it's active, and it's social. In younger grades, I focused on using Fun Fridays to build social-emotional skills. Now that I'm moving into older grades, I want to increase the variety and difficulty of games that students can access during Fun Friday. The math content games I got two years ago have been a huge hit with both the 3rd and 4th graders, so now it is time to add in strategy!
Strategy games offer numerous benefits for kids, enhancing cognitive skills, problem-solving abilities, and even social skills.
They encourage critical thinking, planning, and decision-making, while also promoting focus, memory, and adaptability. Even more, they promote creativity, resilience and perseverance, which can in turn increase self-esteem!
To become proficient in strategy games, the students will need to learn how to focus on more than one thing at once, think in a longer-term way, and learn from mistakes. Children who can weigh their actions against long term goals are set up to succeed both academically and socially!
