My students need a set of comprehension centers to help them better learn how to understand what they read.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. D.'s classroom raised $266
This project is fully funded
I am a Special Education teacher who spends their day bouncing between grades kindergarten through third at a busy community-oriented charter school. I service close to twenty students with varying needs, ranging from Dyslexia to Autism, from Learning Disabled to Developmental Delays.
Many of my students do not learn in traditional ways. They lack the ability to sit down and learn a concept by just listening to a teacher. In order for them to learn something they need to be able to experience it directly. Often books are too abstract for them and they need to learn more hands-on strategies for attacking meaning within books. Giving them games and hands-on centers gives them the opportunity for learning a concept to become more accessible.
The resources that I have requested will give my students the ability to learn new comprehension strategies in a more hands-on way. This will help to become better readers. For instance, many students don't bother to ponder the meaning of a new word once they have sounded it out. These games and centers teach the students to think about the way in which words are used and places to search for the hidden meaning of words in text.
Special Education is always in the news but it never seems to be there for good reasons. Very often the focus of helping students succeed is overshadowed by legal cases and court hearings. The purpose of Special Education is to help students succeed...here is your chance to be a part of the process!
