My Project

As a math AIS teacher, it is our job to support students in creating a strong foundation of math skills so that they can be successful in the classroom. During a professional development about the progression of math strategies from grades K to 6, these tools and games were highlighted as being fantastic resources to help students develop, use, and strengthen the strategies they will be learning to help them build their fluency skills.

Success in math comes from a strong foundation and understanding of math fluency.

Each of the tools or games will support students in building that fluency. The place value disks, charts, and games will help them to better visualize and have a concrete model of the numbers with which they are working. The number bond cards will help them practice their math facts in a way that is not just memorization, but instead, parts of a whole. The clock not only helps them tell time, but can be used for number line and fraction practice. The dice will help them to subitize their numbers so they do not need to count 1 by 1 when using them in solving problems.

With all of these skills also comes the building of confidence with math so that our students feel they can achieve and be successful. Thank you for reading my project and for any support you can offer for the success of our students!
