My students need neck straps for guitars and ukuleles to help them support their instruments as they learn to play, since many of my students are physically handicapped.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach music to elementary age students of all intellectual levels. I not only have regular education students, but I also teach Severe/Profound, Moderately Cognitively Delayed, and Cross Categorical Special Education students, many of whom have physical disabilities as well. In addition, many live in bi-lingual Spanish speaking households. I believe all my students, regardless of their physical, cognitive, or linguistic challenges, deserve the chance to play instruments, sing and move to music.
My school's Special Education Cluster Program integrates students with diverse needs with general education students to breed compassion, tolerance and acceptance.
What amazes me most is my students' acceptance of each other's challenges, their willingness to try everything, and their kindness toward each other.
My Project
Many of my students students have low muscle tone, Cerebral Palsy, and other physical handicaps and are confined to wheelchairs. They struggle to hold their Guitars and Ukuleles.
Having Guitar/Ukulele straps will drastically improve my students' ability to play their instruments because so many of them are physically challenged.
Straps will not only stabilize the instrument, but will also help lift the instrument into the proper playing height because the neck straps are adjustable to accommodate different sized bodies .
The extra support that neck straps provide will enable students to focus on their playing skills rather than having to focus so much on supporting their instrument.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
