Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a high poverty, Title I school in a suburb of Chicago. The majority of students are on a free or reduced priced lunch program. Our student population is very diverse, including students with special needs and English language learners, as well as typical learning students.
My classroom is full of excited students that love to be challenged and have a passion for learning and technology!
They embrace new experiences, work together, and encourage each other! They are our future and I want to give them a great start to their long successful career.
My Project
My students need Scholastic StoryWorks Magazines to help give them real world exposure to text. These magazines have stories in a variety of subject areas which will give students exposure and help build background knowledge.
StoryWorks will help build knowledge while providing students with essential practice in key ELA skills.
It focuses on curriculum-related science and social studies topics; highlights academic and domain-specific vocabulary; and nurtures the higher-level thinking and analytic reading, writing, and grammar skills demanded by today’s rigorous standards.
My students really struggle to find interest in reading, I hope that by providing a resource that is packed with interesting stories, as well as meaningful activities, and online components, we can boost both comprehension and interest in reading.
