Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach all subjects to my Fourth Grade class in a school where almost all the students receive free lunch and most of them speak Spanish at home. Fourth graders have to do a lot of reading and writing all year. They have a HUGELY important three day reading and writing test the first week in February. I would like to have the opportunity to use the Scholastic magazine called "Storyworks" with my class. It has a wonderful grade appropriate selection of fiction and nonfiction. There are activities, grammar ideas and writing contests for the students to participate in. It also gives the students the opportunity to write book reviews and letters to the editors for publication in future editions of the magazine. I have a class with 19 students in it. All of them would be using each issue to enhance their reading, writing and thinking about literature and current events. They would all be writing to the magazine on a monthly basis with the hopes of getting published.
