"I read past my bedtime." I want my students to tell me this! I want to hear how they lost themselves in their book, became best friends with the characters, and learned about the world around them. Reading gives us a place to go when we have to stay where we are. Help motivate my students to read!
I am a fifth grade teacher at a small school near the beach.
My students are eager and excited to kick off their last year of elementary school. Our school is only one of two in the whole district. Both parents and teachers put in great effort to make the student's education memorable. Our school is the cornerstone of our community.
My Project
I am requesting a class subscription (31 copies) of Scholastic's monthly magazine, StoryWorks. StoryWorks will help students practice their reading and analytical skills as well as address issues which are relevant to both their academic and personal lives. Perhaps equally as important, magazines are great for motivating children to want to learn! StoryWorks combines exciting, complex texts with rigorous support materials to build skills in every strand of the Common Core Standards. The wide range of genres includes informational and narrative nonfiction, short fiction, poetry, debates, and read-aloud plays based on myths, classic literature, and history. Stories in the magazine connect to Science and Social Studies, making them easy to integrate into our curriculum. Now, we just need your help to get these magazines into our classroom!
I want all my students to leave 5th grade knowing that reading can be fun rather than a daunting task to complete.
On behalf of my entire classroom, thank you for your continued support and generosity. We are so grateful to live in such a wonderful community that values education.
