My students are special because they are children from all over the world. In my EL classroom, we speak many different languages and share the common goal of learning to speak English in social and academic settings.
My students have a heavy load trying to learn the english language at the same time as they're learning academics and how to fit in with their peers.
Text alone cannot fill all of the language needs for English Language Learners. Hands-on materials they can interact with and use to interact with other students in social settings can fulfill the additional needs they have.
Children learn best when they have engaging tools in their hands. My goal is to use these STEM kits to provide hands-on opportunities for my young learners to develop more of the english language while they're practicing social skills and making friends. These materials will allow my students to practice skills such as following diagrams, spacial awareness, following directions, prepositional phrases, telling events in order, and communicating effectively with their peers in english.
I plan to use these materials to create a bridge between social skills, literacy, language, mathematics, and science in my classroom.
These tools will be fun and engaging for all of my students and they will provide practice for early engineering concepts as well as critical language skills.
