My Students
My students are multi-age kindergarteners! My classroom is made up of fantastic three, four, and five-year-olds who love to create and explore! Our school is in a high poverty area in rural South Carolina. Our school is also a public Montessori school which provides lots of personalized learning opportunities for students! My students need books and classroom materials to expose them to the world through rich learning experiences. My students deserve the opportunities that students in higher income districts have. By providing them with rich, meaningful materials, my students will grow into global citizens with the skills to make the world a better place!
My Project
These books and storytelling kits will help my students develop creativity. These materials will also help my students spark a life long love for reading and books! The storytelling board and kits will allow us to read and then re-tell popular children’s stories like “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” as a group. Using the books and kits during our group reading time will bring these stories to life by engaging students and allowing them to be apart of the story telling process! The lap board will allow students to manipulate the story telling objects on their own and with their peers. This will give students the ability to practice retelling and sequencing stories. These materials will also give my students the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of literature. They will also be able to express and expand their creativity by using the story telling objects to create their own stories.
