My classroom is full of a remarkable bunch of young learners. My students come from all areas of town, mostly from an urban setting. This group is extremely diverse in their special learning needs and abilities. I truly want to provide all my students with an opportunity to learn and grow, while loving the environment they are in.
In my classroom, I have found that technology has been incredible to personalize learning and connect with students who may otherwise find it difficult to engage with our skills and concepts.
In our district, however, funding is limited and access to computers becomes difficult.
My Project
Everybody loves a good story... whether it's a novel, picture book, or even just a friend telling you one. Why does it have to stop at just that? What about telling a story of Science? At the end of each unit my students are asked to complete a culminating project of everything they have learned. My students often choose to write stories, make a song, or write a poem demonstrating their knowledge of the topic.
My students love to write narrative stories, poems or songs depicting themselves as an important part of Science.
Whether it's writing from the perspective of a sound wave as it travels through our classroom or singing as if they are the full moon way up in the sky, storytelling in Science is fun and engaging for all students! Students are able to take an informational topic and bring it to life all while showing their knowledge and comprehension.
My students have so much fun composing their stories and songs, but don't all have the technology to publish their work. After spending time drafting, revising and editing their stories and songs they deserve the technology to finalize their work. The Chromebooks would be a great way for them to do just that. The addition of two new Chromebooks to our classroom will continue to allow my students to story-tell their way through Science.
