Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Art as a tool for self-reflection and as an agent of change is something my students learn in my classroom. During the fourth quarter, my students will be hand-building ceramic sculptures informed by the work of Marva Lee Pitchford-Jolly, an extraordinary ceramicist who paved the way for other Black women artists in Chicago. Jolly said, "My story pots reflect the stories I've heard and listened to all my life. Many of these voices have universal concepts, yet come from very personal experiences. [They] also talk about the capacity to grow, a quality that is present in all of us."

By donating to our project, you will provide the tools that my students will use to reflect on this idea about the capacity to grow by telling their own stories through ceramic pots.

The materials for this project will help me teach my students skills so they may create story pots and exhibit their work in the community.
