Stories to Amplify Diverse Voices

Help me give my students books that foster inclusivity by celebrating our community's history and diversity through representation of unique voices; with all primary classes reading Barrio Rising, students will be able to connect over these important themes.

My Project

These selected books, including Barrio Rising, will showcase the resilience and creativity of often marginalized voices. Students build empathy and feel empowered when they hear these stories throughout our curriculum and across grade levels. By celebrating these stories, we celebrate our diversity!

Our school is a diverse community, including newcomers to our country, and these students need to see themselves and their stories reflected in the texts we read.

These texts will not only enhance students' literacy skills, but also encourage understanding and connection among peers.

Inspired by these stories, students will learn the importance of taking action in the community and pursue their own action. Students will also have the opportunity to write and share their own narratives with their classmates. Their writing will allow them to further explore these important themes of identity and social justice together.

When many classrooms share the same text, it elevates the message and unites us around the importance of diversity. At an IB school, this is central to our mission and aligns with our curriculum throughout the year. We can't wait to use these amazing resources! Thank you for supporting our teachers and students!
