Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from low-income families that are of Hispanic and African-American descent. Most of the students speak two languages and struggle with the transitions between the languages. Some students can not afford basic school supplies, get a good night sleep, concentrate on their educational success due to home issues that some adults never have to think about.

It is my job to provide a safe and effective environment for a successful academic future.

I focus on each of my students' needs through small group and one on one work. It is my goal to keep students engaged and focused while in small groups. I have to be very creative with this due to our schools limited funding for extra materials. These materials would help my students stay focused and productive during their center time.

My Project

Reader's Workshop is a combination of mini-lessons, independent work, and sharing. Students are engaged, eager to learn, become independent, and show their classmates what they have achieved. Students meet with their teacher to have conferences to discuss their specific stories.

Student choice and ownership is the key to a successful Reader's Workshop!

In order to become a good reader, students need to listen to many different stories from a variety of authors. They have to discuss what strategies they heard and find them within their personal stories at their personal reading levels.

I want my students to become the best readers they can possibly become and these books will help me take them there!
