My Project
I currently teach students in 6-8th grade. My students present with speech and language impairments as well as learning disabilities. Most of the time the reading material in class is too challenging and not engaging. I would like to give my students the opportunity to read stories that are on their reading level, but also appropriate for their age to serve as a motivation and an opportunity for them to become successful readers.
Would you want to know, "Why are your sneakers so bright?" or read an article titled, "Would you eat volcano Pizza?" These are the kinds of articles/stories that can be found in the Scholastic Scope magazine and I would like for my students to have the opportunity to read stories that are engaging and on their level.
I really like SCOPE magazine because of the interesting topics and the opportunity that it provides students to work on reading comprehension and writing skills. These skills are crucial for my students' academic success. The magazine will be used as a tool to help students achieve their speech and language goals.
