I teach in a classroom for students with diverse special needs. I know my students very well after having the chance to teach some of them for over a year. I always try to be an advocate for their well being in their town by practicing real-world skills acquisition out in the community. I also look out for their well being in school and frequently advocate for my students to receive instructional supplies through DonorsChoose.org.
I know my students deserve the best because being a special education student in a public school full of general education peers is not always easy.
I always strive for my students to be included in the least restrictive setting despite their different learning levels. I want my students to be comfortable with their peers and relate to their interests. The students always continue to rise to the occasion with the given support from the district and the extra materials from my DonorsChoose.org projects.
My Project
My students need color ink for the classroom printer. The ink will help make work materials, reminder cards, and other visuals in color. The learning games by Lakeshore will help my students practice math and language arts skills in a fun and motivating way. The word builder magnets will allow my students to build words in a more hands-on way. They can create words with different vowel combinations, blends, digraphs, and suffixes. The storytelling kits use props to help familiar and classic children's books come to life.
My student's learn best when they are motivated and games and interactive tools always help reinforce learning.
Students with special needs tend to work best with motivating materials such as these. The materials I have requested will be used during small group instruction and independent work. With your help, we can help bring color, fun, and motivation to my students' everyday education!
