This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hard-working, young people who come mainly from underrepresented backgrounds in maths and mathematical sciences. Yet, despite their backgrounds, they come to school and shine every day as they learn maths.
Discovering, applying, re-creating and modeling mathematics are just some of the activities my students perform in our classroom.
My students are not just working hard in mathematics, but they are learning to use technology efficiently, and in many instances, they are also learning English as a second or third language.
My Project
The books that your donation will provide will allow us to have our class library of math stories and financial literacy materials.
The teachings from these books will allow us to link reading and/or story-telling to the development of mathematical concepts through the connections between the story or the financial concepts and the mathematical concept(s) at hand.
These books will be a great tool for differentiated instruction for we will connect the arts of reading, speaking, listening, story-telling, financial literacy, and visual learning with that of mathematics. Students will be able to see a variety of mathematical concepts both in a fiction-based format (through stories) and through applications (via financial literacy).
