Help me give my students literature like "Let's Count" to help them comprehend math concepts. I have bought a professional development book to plan lessons around these books and I need the books to go with the lessons.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My adorable, enthusiastic, bright students are the lights of my life. They struggle to master grade level math concepts, but are incredibly eager to learn. I often hear, "we are learning so much today!" and, "I can't wait til you pick me up!"
My students have made significant gains in their math performance and are catching up to their peers.
But the fact remains that many of them face the dual challenge of Title 1 status and having special needs.
My Project
I have bought the professional development book "Numbers and Stories" to assist me in planning lessons around children's literature that relates to math concepts. Research shows that students can build their understanding of number sense and math operations through real world examples and literature. For example, I will use the book "Let's Count" to teach place value for numbers 10 to 19 and 20 to 100.
My students struggle to understand math concepts and these texts will help them ground their understanding of numbers in literature that we can all share.
These books are the exact titles I need to plan lessons to address skills such as counting and cardinality, whole number operations, algebraic thinking, and place value.
