Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As the school year is wrapping up...I have been able to really take in all of the glows and grows of the amazing class that I have been teaching. Seeing the way the students enjoy reading, choose to read, and yearn to read has helped me focus a lot on their reading levels and improving them! Moreover, they are at the stage where they are learning to organize their own stuff (papers, crayons, tablets, manipulative, folders, etc). With that being said, I want the upcoming year to also have the opportunity to also target this skill.

For this same reason, I am aiming to give students the opportunity to display their organization skills that can be done in the classroom and at home.

This will help students develop and strengthen responsibility and it will produce a long lasting skill that becomes a futuristic virtue as they develop. That is why I ask for a lot of storage related items so students can use; from having their own mailbox, to taking home a book back, to using a binder for their writing prompt. These are only a few ways that can be incorporated the classroom for their management and organization skills.

My students have shown me their capability of being able to take ownership and responsibility in and outside the classroom. Therefore, I want to advocate that for future students! Although the majority of the students come from low income families, I strive to do my best to blind that hurdle and encourage them to dream big. But it starts with now and with what can be provided.
