The 1st graders in my class enter our classroom every day with a positive attitude, ready to tackle any challenges throughout the day. My students are kind, hard-working and full of wonder. I want my students to know that there is no challenge they cannot accomplish if they work hard and have persistence.
Each and every one of my students brings a unique view of the world with them when they enter our classroom.
I teach at a diverse school in the 2nd largest city in Vermont. Our students come from a wide range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, meaning that they all bring different life experiences with them to the classroom. Some of our students are from other countries, speak different languages, and have diverse life experiences.
My Project
Our classroom currently has three small shelves which house various books, math manipulatives, and play materials. These shelves were well-loved hand-me-downs from a previous teacher. Due to a leak in our classroom from built-up snow and ice this winter, the three wooden shelves have been damaged. The shelves have had to be moved to various spaces in my classroom to both avoid the leak and provide easy access for students. As a result of moving the shelves to avoid the leak and the water damage, our shelves will not last until the end of the school year.
A large, mobile shelf will give my class the storage it needs while giving us the freedom to move the shelf with ease if a problem arises.
This shelf would be a home for many materials in our classroom that are used on an everyday basis. The materials will be easily accessible when students need an extra math manipulative, engaging books, or well-earned choice time supplies after a days work.
