Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are on their way to becoming multilingual, multiliterate, and multicultural global ambassadors. Each year my students are coming into third grade eager to learn and up for any challenge. They are independent, comedic storytellers, understand fairness and most importantly they will work hard if you show them you believe they can do it.

In this ever changing world, having flexible workspaces allows my students to manipulate the classroom and keeps them engaged and enthusiastic.

This is a major reason why my students do not want to leave school at the end of the day. They love being there and love their teacher.

My Project

The use of the books bins will help keep my students everyday curriculum materials organized and at hands reach. Without these bins my students will continue to have items misplaced and mistakenly taken home. The individualized pencil boxes will allow my students to shift from a 100% community supply system to a "partially" individualized supply system. What I mean by that is students will still share supplies with their classmates but each will have the same 2 pencils, 1 eraser and dry erase marker in their pencil box and share all other supplies like markers, crayons, scissors, glue etc,. My hope is that this will make for a much more peaceful classroom and save my partner teacher and I transitioning time.

There is no one "right" way to organize a third grade classroom.

My hope is that these storage solutions will eliminate students “private stashes” which can leave some children with inferior supplies and cause bickering and hurt feelings when they lend supplies only to other classmates. By switching to a more "partially" individualized supply system it will help foster a sense that the classroom and everything in it belongs to everyone and will help my students learn how to share and become more responsible for their items. Such as; pencils and erasers. These items usually have bitten off erasers and intentionally broken pencils in half with silver metal piece from the top gone!
